As a socially responsible corporation, Milliman seeks to identify opportunities to uplift the community in which we work.
We are currently partnering with the Every Child a Chance Trust to support socio-economically deprived schools in London in their efforts to help students develop critical numeracy skills. Poor numeracy skills are often flagged as an issue that affects our youth—children who fall behind on maths may never catch up.
We are specifically supporting 1stClass@Number™, an intervention programme in which trained teaching assistants help small groups of children catch up with their peers. Lesson plans are adapted based on student assessments. In 2011, children in this programme made on average eights months progress after 24 half-hour lessons, and the most able students made more than 20 months progress.
